Adamawa

Nigeria

Adamawa State is located in northeastern Nigeria and traces its history to the powerful Adamawa Emirate, founded in the early nineteenth century by Modibbo Adama under the authority of the Sokoto Caliphate. The emirate became one of the largest political and Islamic centers in the region, promoting trade, agriculture, and cattle herding across a vast territory.

During the colonial period, the historical Adamawa region was divided between British Nigeria and German Cameroon. After the First World War, Britain assumed control of the Nigerian section, which later became part of Northern Nigeria following the country's independence in 1960.

Adamawa State was officially created on 27 August 1991 from the former Gongola State. Today, it is known for its agricultural economy, livestock production, diverse ethnic communities, and remarkable natural attractions, including Gashaka-Gumti National Park and the scenic Mandara Mountains.
